What Readers Say About the Book
Your book is a wealth of business advice and best practices. It's priceless. Thank you for sharing.
I recently read your book while on vacation, and loved it. You undoubtedly have a lot to offer the rest of humanity, Thank you for making the effort!
Daryl reflects on how he was able to overcome his emotional and personality weaknesses generated from his dysfunctional family upbringing by focusing on his strengths in order to build a very successful and lucrative business. He was able to see his employees as a positive and important factor in the ability to grow his business by his genuine caring about people and being a giver. Daryl supported and aided his employees in need and gave them the encouragement to perform at their highest level and then rewarded them for their accomplishments. However, the power of money and a downturn in his industry forced him to lose focus on what was important and why he was able to grow the business the way he did in the first place by selling his company and then seeing the downfall of his company and his cherished employees. This crisis caused him to go against the core of his belief system that put him in the hospital with a life threatening illness. This illness opened up his mind and heart again to go back to what was important to him which was encouraging and helping others better themselves.. This cycle of business and life is what Daryl focuses on in his book. He reassures the reader to never let go of what's really important in life and to cherish those things that may not be here tomorrow.
I am not an avid reader at all and read his book in just 4 days. A record for me. It was fast, intriguing and heartwarming. I recommend this book to anyone who struggles with the material things in life that takes away from what's truly important in our short lives such as our health, family, loved ones, time and the little things that we take for granted.
Thank you Daryl for opening up to us and letting us share in your successes and failures in life
Dude, what a good read! I couldnt put it down, I loved every page of it! So well written, so easy to read, your story is amazing.
It was really moving, made me take a hard look at myself...I swear man, so much of what you wrote about relates to mylife!
Congrates buddy!
You should make a movie out of ;)
I read the book cover to cover Sunday night. Loved it Daryl, literally couldn't put it down. I wish everyone wrote their own book, it gives great insight into who they really are as people. I'm glad to know you better. Biographies and business profiles are my absolute favorite to read. You nailed the reason I love them; the unique things that came together (external and internal to you) to overcome adversity. Thanks for the lessons.
I left Barnes and Noble on Sunday with my back killing me, but my heart so filled up.
I then learned AGAIN, never try and start a book while approaching every traffic signal all the way home.
I then began the minute I got home, well....after 3 advil and a jug of water that is. And into the 2nd introduction page I KNEW I better get my highlighter, FAST.
This is my first e-mail and I hope you won't mind all that I will have to say. But, want to I want to tell you is that SINCE Sunday even though I'm almost finished, EVERYDAY I keep re-reading in my mind about "THE SPOT." I instantly tear up and tell myself to stop, otherwise I will ball my eyes out. When I tell you that I SO related to so much of what you shared, if not ALL of it. And more on this AMAZING, heart-wrenching, BEYOND well written WINDOW into your childhood. Daryl, I felt like I was running with you. And I wanted to wrap my "wings" around all three of you. Then I wanted to save all the kids out there running to "their spot" THEN I thought, Let's Open a place called THE SPOT. Oyyy vey is putting this mildly. It tugged so deeply at me that I will NEVER, ever forget it.
I could write to you for hours, but I have to head out. Lucky You! :))))
More e-mails to follow when I'm done. BUT, you know how when you're loving a book so much that you almost want to slow down. You don't want it to end? That's how I feel, but I will finish probably tonight.
I am BLOWN AWAY even more than I've ever been BY YOU.
You had already "arrived" Daryl, even as you ran to THE SPOT!
I love you honey, Happy Tuesday to you HEART LEADER!!!!!
Daryl: If you thought I was crying at the book signing yesterday, you wouldn't believe how I sobbed through your book. You are so strong, and I think what happened to you was worse than what has happened to any of us. We all share a bond in going through this nightmare on different levels, but your experience needs to be shared with that book. I hope it is an amazing success. I read it straight through.
Enjoyed going to your book signing yesterday. It was nice to see you and all the other UPM people. Very enjoyable. Picked up Heart Leader after lunch and read it straight thru. The last book I did that with was Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Many similarities in that they are both very honest, have excellent life lessons, easy reading and I will recommend them highly in the future. Some of the story I knew having talked to you or experienced it working for UPM, but much of it answered questions that were helpful to my understanding what went on. All of it was both entertaining and enlightening. I felt/feel fortunate to having worked and know you and I feel more fortunate to know you a little better after reading your book. You should consider it one of your many successes!
Best wishes,
Daryl
I can't put it down...
I'm up to midnight which is rare for me ,reading and hanging on to every word on each page.
How cathartic this must have been for you.
Your early life stricks a cord in what my siblings and I went through growing up.
I was Always the one who protected the younger ones and to this day my role continues.
I truly believe one must have passion over money.I offer this to young people who I mentor.
Daryl you are fantastic.
I love you and I will see you Sunday with a big hug...
Just wanted to let you know I FINALLY finished Heart Leader and really enjoyed reading your book. Like I said Sunday I think people can really learn alot from the book and take their own situations and try to make them into positive ones. (Maybe not all but we can at least try.)
Some examples in your book also give us an understanding of why people act and treat people the way they do. (I definetly can relate to that chapter.)
That was so awesome that you mentioned Jaren and I in Chapter 17. Jaren and I feel very fortunate to have such wonderful and great friends in our lives as you and Ondrea.
Can't wait for your book signing Sunday. (Sophia is very excited to get your autograph.)
Have a great day!
I decided this morning to take off the day and relax. Kellie and I had breakfast at Marmalade and walked over to Polachek's to have a new battery put in her watch. I saw your book in the window and bought it with the intention of reading it while we are in Scottsdale next week. I came home and sat down on my couch to read the opening chapter and just kept going.
I want you to know that I really thought you did an excellent job. It was easy to read, interesting and upbeat. I thought your honesty and sincerity shined through and it reminded me of some of our long talks that we have had over the years. I laughed at many of the stories as I either knew them from our experiences together or had heard them before. I really enjoyed your high school graduation speech again as it brought me back to that day in 1983. The story of your Lee Appleby saga was classic as I could picture the story so clearly as if I were sitting at the next booth! I would like to hear more about the challenges you faced with the Country Wide transition and assume there was limited detail that you could discuss in the book for obvious reasons.
I know that the past couple years have been an enormous challenge for you in so many ways. I want you to know that I respect so much your commitment to your ideals and your principals. Congratulations and much success for Heart Leader and all of your other endeavors. Your hard work and dedication to improving the lives of others will pay off and you will continue the success in your life as you have in the past.
I look forward to seeing you for lunch in April.
Warmest regards,
Loved your book!!! My name should have been in there though! Ha Ha!
