The Three C's have been used in business for years. There are a number of different C's that are used in The Three C's.
For me, I believe that every high quality leader must possess the talent and desire for Coaching, Caring and Communicating.
Coaching: As leaders we must be willing and able to help those we lead improve through us coaching them on ways to improve. This takes grace and the willingness to invest time in our co-workers. I recommend the following steps:
1. Graceful, calm and honest explanation of how you would like the task or process to be completed.
2. The leader performing the task or process for the co-worker(s) to observe.
3. The leader observing the co-worker(s) performing the task or process.
4. The leader complimenting the co-worker(s) on what was performed correctly and redirects the co-worker(s) in areas that need adjustment and/or improvement.
Caring: As leaders, if we show our co-workers how much we care about them and their lives, we will be rewarded with loyalty, hard work and a positive culture.
Communicating: It should probably be over communication but that would change the name of this section to Two C's and One O... Not very catchy.
Anyway, communicating information, both good and bad, to our co-workers is a vital part to make them feel like they are a vital part of what the company is doing.
A few tips for successful leadership communication include:
1. Communication to them as a group via email on a weekly basis. Tell them the good, the bad and the ugly. Co-workers constantly speculate about what is going on inside the organization. Remove as much of that as possible by telling them the truth from your point of view and do it often.
2. Communicate to the leadership/management team and key company influencer's on a weekly basis. Allow them to provide input and utilize their knowledge and experience to improve the organization.
3. Communicate one on one to the top 5 most valuable people in the organization at least twice each week. Keep them in the loop in key organizational decisions and direction.
In closing, be honest, lead with grace and integrity and over communicate. I believe the result will be a more productive organization with a positive culture.
